Legal Support Specialist Duties: Reports to senior Director for Board & Legal Support Services, Supports the mission of the university by: Perform difficult and varied attorney support work which involves initiative, independent judgment, and responsibility for executing entire support process of considerable importance. Provide research and information assistance as well as coordinate information and prepare documents to assist attorneys and staff in the Office of General Counsel and assist with legal needs of other university departments. Direct and provide litigation support to attorneys, such as witness scheduling, interviews, travel, witness preparation and deposition support; research facts and issues, retrieve documents, and manage witnesses during trial. Consult with loan collections officer about files presented for litigation. Initiate and maintain student loan litigation files; prepare court documents for review by attorney; handle lawsuit filings, service, judgments, and other litigation matters. Direct preparation of new or renewed practicum / internship agreements, and maintain, archive and retrieve forms as needed, as well as provide direct communication regarding the forms. Direct support regarding SB308 (Public Information Act) regarding requests for records from University Police Department; Direct duplication of files as well as the upkeep and overall management of the filing system. Provide support in preparation of legal documents for review, approval and use by attorneys. Proofread documents for accuracy. Maintain utmost confidentiality of office matters. Provide backup for staff and attorneys as needed. Serve as Notary Public to university administration for Baylor Business. Perform other tasks as assigned and directed. First backup for telephones. Assist in maintenance of various office calendars and assist with docket and mail log management.
Qualification and Experience
Requirements: High School Education. Preferred Associate's Degree. 3 years of relevant work. Paralegal certification or formal training as a legal secretary, paralegal or legal preferred. Proficiency with computers and other office equipment. Good communication skills, both oral and written, using correct English, grammar, spelling and punctuation. Efficient organizational skills. Ability to handle multiple tasks. Typing skills at 40-plus wpm with accuracy. Experience as a legal secretary, paralegal or legal aide preferred.
