Profile

Child Support Officer IV Duties : Performs advanced child support enforcement actions to collect arrears through special collections programs. Work involves assessing cases, enforcing court orders for child support and/or responding to customer inquiries. Prepares and processes legal documents and monitors case progress. Negotiates lump sum collections with obligors and/or obligors’ attorneys. Trains others. Works under limited supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Conducts detailed in-office investigations to locate, identify, and legally attach financial holdings and other identified assets. Communicates and corresponds directly with insurance adjustors, financial institutions, and retirement account plan administrators. Assesses child support cases to determine appropriate action. Monitors cases and initiates communication with customers to begin negotiations for lump-sum payments. Negotiates out-of-court settlements and agreements with parties. Responds to highly complex inquiries regarding child support case status, attachment process and procedures, laws and regulations, and other issues. Researches case information on the Texas Child Support Enforcement System (TXCSES); maintains current knowledge of child support policies and procedures, Texas Family Law, federal regulations and other states’ IV-D regulations.Assists with customer dispute claims and responds to routine financial inquiries. Assesses the validity of complaints against the IV-D program with impartiality. Documents all actions taken, to include verification customers’ personal demographic information. Provides training and technical assistance to office staff. Review and maintain child support virtual files for accuracy in the Enterprise Content Management (ECM) repository. May serve as Team Lead. Performs related work as assigned. Maintains relevant knowledge necessary to perform essential job functions. Attends work regularly in compliance with agreed-upon work schedule. Ensures security and confidentiality of sensitive and/or protected information. Complies with all agency policies and procedures, including those pertaining to ethics and integrity.

Qualification and Experience

Qualification: Should have completed Graduation from high school or equivalent. Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university is preferred. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; experience in the following (or closely related) fields may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis: full-time Child Support Program, investigations, credit collections, legal assistant, legal secretary, IV-A eligibility specialist, or insurance adjustor. Must have 2+ years of full-time experience working in the following (or closely related) fields: full-time Child Support Program, investigations, credit collections, legal assistant, legal secretary, IV-A eligibility specialist, or insurance adjustor. Prior experience as a Child Support Officer with the Texas Attorney General’s Office is desired. Must have extensive knowledge of investigative practices and techniques. Should have extensive knowledge of child support policies, procedures and processes. Skills: Extensive skill in negotiating and interviewing. Extensive skill in effective oral and written communication. Extensive skill in using a computer for word processing and data entry/retrieval. Extensive skill in handling multiple tasks, prioritizing, and meeting deadlines. Extensive skill in basic mathematical computations. Must have ability to proficiently read, write, and speak Spanish.
