Patent Agent Responsibilities: Drafting patent applications and drawings, capturing invention disclosures, understanding the company’s technologies. Conducting or assisting in prior art searches; drafting expert opinions on patentability or potential infringements of technical solutions contemplated. Managing the interface and relationship with external intellectual property firms when they are relied upon to provide support for the IP processes. Developing and maintaining knowledge of Patent Office Rules and Procedures (primarily US, however some knowledge of PCT and Foreign office rules and procedures is expected). Reviewing office actions and other communications from patent offices and preparing responses as requested and in a timely manner. Reviewing intellectual property language and terms as they are included in legal agreements with customers. Training of internal personnel on the concepts of Intellectual Property and related processes. Completion of the following activities, either personally, via a direct report, or an outside counsel: Preparing and filing Information Disclosure Statements (IDS) in a timely manner. Preparing formal documents, obtaining the signatures of inventors and other relevant parties, and filing the documents with various patent offices. Management of the Intellectual Property docket, including monitoring of deadlines and communicating upcoming deadlines to management in a timely matter. Ensuring all Intellectual Property documents and dates are entered into the docket. Communicating with patent examiners and other Patent Office personnel regarding routine matters. Reviewing work performed to ensure quality and completeness. Assisting with developing and documenting client specific processes and procedures. Drafting of Press Releases related to IP firm.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate technical discipline, preferably electrical engineering. Strong technical skills. Familiarity with USPTO website. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Experience in patent prosecution preferred. Must be extremely organized and detail oriented. Understands deadlines and possesses a sense of urgency. Ability to communicate in a proficient, tactful, and confident manner with external contacts and coworkers. Independent worker, ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks in a timely manner. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel. Competently operate standard office equipment.
