Profile

Legal & Compliance Officer Duties: Provides legal counsel to Bryan Health and its subsidiaries. Provides legal consultation to all organizational personnel, including members of the Bryan Health senior team. Provides oversight to organizational adherence to health care regulatory requirements mandated by federal and state law. Reviews changes in the law and governmental payer requirements; disseminates information and provides relevant education to the organization. Reviews and drafts organizational contracts, as requested, prior to signing to ensure legal review and regulatory compliance with oversight agencies. Provides legal oversight as gatekeeper of legal services, performing legal services within legal competencies and internal resources and otherwise assigning legal services to outside attorneys and overseeing such attorneys' work product. Serves as the chief compliance officer for Bryan Health and provides oversight to compliance activities at all Bryan entities. Develops and monitors the Corporate Compliance Plan. Provides leadership and support to members of the Bryan Health senior team and other organizational personnel concerning legal and compliance issues; serves on committees and task forces to communicate legal and compliance changes/expectations as appropriate. Reviews all legal issues as requested, performs legal work as appropriate and as resources allow and outsources legal work to outside law firms; provides oversight of such outside legal work; reviews legal bills for accuracy. Monitors and evaluates actual and proposed changes to federal and state law including government program memos, manuals and regulations to ensure continued and planned Bryan Health compliance with regulatory requirements; notifies and communicates proposed changes to appropriate organizational personnel. Works with the Corporate Compliance Coordinator to design compliance audits. Annually develops a corporate compliance audit plan for Bryan Medical Center and assists other Health System entities with developing an audit plan; implements and maintains the organization-wide Corporate Compliance program. Participates with Senior Management and organizational leaders in decision-making processes which impact corporate compliance; develops, communicates and maintains corporate compliance policies and procedures for Bryan Health. Chairs the Bryan Health Administrative Compliance Committee; presents compliance issues to committee members for evaluation and discussion; biannually reports to the Bryan Health Board of Trustees Audit and Compliance Committee on compliance issues and status; has full access to the Bryan Health Board of Trustees to make reports on compliance issues as needed.

Qualification and Experience

Qualifications: JD Degree from an accredited College of Law with licensure to practice law in the State of Nebraska required. 6+ years' experience practicing health care law required. Experience with health care compliance preferred.
