Law Clerk Intern Duties: Works as a team member in providing immigration legal services to clients in the Immigration Legal Services (ILS) program at the Esperanza Center. Will provide support to staff attorneys in their representation of ILS clients before U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, U.S. Customs and Border Patrol, U.S. Department of State and the Executive Office for Immigration Review. Assist attorneys with initial client intake. Prepare pleadings and complaints in Maryland state court plus federal immigration applications for clients. Interact directly with client to obtain the correct information and documentation for their applications. Perform legal research and analysis. Draft legal memos. Perform community outreach to disseminate basics of Constitutional and Immigration law.
Qualification and Experience
Candidate must be enrolled in an accredited law school. Law clerk must be able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. Must have effective verbal, written, de-escalation, and interpersonal skills. Must be able to work as part of a team. Must be well-organized and able to perform basic data entry, as well as, having good time management skills.
