Summer Internship The office offers an opportunity for law students to experience the world of indigent criminal defense. Interns will conduct investigations, research criminal law issues, assist public defenders in misdemeanor and felony cases and, if eligible for student practice certification under Colorado Revised Statute § 12-5-116.2, appear in county court with clients in misdemeanor cases. In order to become a certified intern in Colorado, the intern must have completed all of their course requirements for second year of law school before the internship begins. Full-time certified interns will be assigned own small misdemeanor caseload and represent clients throughout the course of the case, including any scheduled trials. The intern program is conducted under the guidance of experienced attorney supervisors and includes training created especially for interns, as well as the ability to attend other public defender training. Should not have competed second year of law school.
