Fall Law Clerk Internship - Legislative Affairs Division The intern handles the legal business of the State. Serves as legal counsel to the judiciary, the governor, the legislature and virtually all State agencies, departments, boards and commissions. Also represents the State in litigation before all state and federal courts, trial and appellate, including the U.S. Supreme Court. The Attorney General has enforcement authority as well. Protects the public from fraud and illegal business practices through the work of the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit and the Securities, Consumer Protection, Criminal Investigations and Antitrust Divisions. Gets involved in issues affecting almost every aspect of the lives of Maryland citizens. A law clerk might help write an opinion on the right to die, draft wetlands regulations, protect consumers from illegal bait and switch tactics, or give advice on housing initiatives. In addition to assisting attorneys in advising and counseling State clients, law clerks have the opportunity to work with seasoned trial lawyers whose job it is to defend the State in litigation. Provides students with an excellent hands-on opportunity to learn about state government and the work of the Office. Should be law students who have completed at least one semester and have strong research and writing skills. Application Deadline: August 1
