Investigative Internship The intern will work in the Juvenile Protection division. Law students work as investigative interns assisting in the defense of criminal cases in the various county Circuit, District and Juvenile Courts. Intern investigators assist lawyers in investigating the facts of their cases and preparing for trial. Working in teams of two, interns' duties can include locating witnesses, conducting interviews, obtaining written statements, performing criminal background checks, reviewing crime scenes, serving subpoenas, preparing trial exhibits, and testifying in court. The program begins with a training orientation. Orientation classes include: case management and organization, theories of defense, reading police reports, understanding system-wide case-flow, interviewing techniques, requirements for taking formal written statements, and serving subpoenas. Following this initial training, students are paired-up and then assigned a variety of cases with different Agency attorneys, who will directly supervise the work of the intern. Should commit to a minimum of three full days per week, and priority is given to students who can work forty hours each week.
