Summer Interns Program Interns will work in one of the following clinical areas: Clinic: Veterans Legal Clinic – (Estate Planning Project). Through the Clinic, will represent local veterans and their family members in estate planning matters. In all of our case work, will help veterans and their families attain the maximum degree of stability and financial well being. Through the Clinic, will handle various case types, all with the purpose of helping veterans exercise the maximum control over family, health, and financial decision making. Among other things, represent clients on matters involving: wills, powers of attorney, health care proxies, living wills, trusts, special needs trusts, guardianships, conservatorships, probate of estates, qualifying for VA Pension, qualifying for MassHealth. Will have numerous lawyering opportunities, including client interviewing, legal research & writing, client counseling, drafting and executing legal instruments, and appearances in Probate Court. interact with medical providers and medical experts and to work on cases at the intersection of mental health and the law. Will conduct interviews with potential clients seeking advice or assistance; counsel and advise clients; engage in investigation and formal discovery; develop case strategies; prepare pleadings for courts or petitions to administrative agencies; and research case specific legal issues. Appear before courts on contested motions, preliminary matters or assist in a trial; others will represent clients before administrative agencies. Engage in hands-on learning, to test new skills, and to interact with client communities. Note: on a case-by-case basis, we will also consider split-summers and summer schedules that begin before May 22 and/or end after July 28. Dates: May 22, 2017 – July 28, 2017
