Profile

Senior Patent Counsel – Licensing Duties: Will supervise and mentor junior patent engineering staff from company's foreign offices as to patent application drafting, prosecution and practice procedures before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Development of outbound licensing programs, in conjunction with corporate strategic initiatives developed from company's corporate headquarters. Rendering of comprehensive intellectual property support to various domestic Futurewei Business Units, including advising as to portfolio development strategies and rendering of legal advice to corresponding US domestic patent review boards. Critical review and management of outside counsel engaged in patent procurement activities on behalf of Huawei, as well as attending to oversight and training of patent engineer personnel engaged in preparation and prosecution of U.S. and foreign patent applicatins. Support of Chief Patent Counsel in general intellectual property activities. Analysis and communication of technical and legal issues to client groups and IP department personnel globally. Assist in the development of policies and procedures to optimize company's U.S. patent portfolio and associated patent practice.

Qualification and Experience

Qualifications : Ideal candidate must have 8-10 years of experience in patent prosecution practice, including in-house and private law firm experience with a particular emphasis on out-bound licensing, patent procurement, and portfolio development and management. Must possess a strong technical background in Electrical Engineering, Physics and/or Computer Science; prior experience working within the telecommunications industry desirable. License to practice law in the United States, and preferably in either the State of California or the State of Texas.. Registration to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Experience with the development and implementation of outbound patent license programs. Strong patent prosecution background, and interest in patent procurement matters. Possess excellent oral and written communications skills. Possess excellent patent legal and analytical skills, including demonstrated ability to independently formulate and draft appropriate responses to office actions, and advise clients as to various intellectual property issues. Limited domestic and international travel may be required.
