IP Counsel The candidate will drive strategic patent initiatives, technology acquisition diligence, product clearance, commercial transactions, invention harvesting, portfolio development, management and litigation support as needed. Will be responsible for: patent preparation and prosecution; patent searching; competitive landscaping; freedom to operate analysis; and technology acquisition diligence. Develop a strong understanding of the business tactics and strategies and use that understanding to build strong multi-layered protective and strategic patent portfolio that efficiently builds long-term value for the business.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have a J.D. degree from an accredited law school and admission to practice law and 6+ years of experience practicing patent or intellectual property law. An advanced degree or experience in biology is a plus. Must have experience in patent preparation and prosecution, patent searching, competitive landscaping, and freedom to operate analyses. Excellent scientific and technical expertise is required. An advanced degree in molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, bioengineering or closely related field is needed. Should be registered to practice before the USPTO and registered to practice in California or be eligible for Registered In-House Counsel (RIHC) status in California. Should also have experience in all aspects of US and foreign intellectual property law relating to biotechnology, preferably in the pharmaceutical industry with a law firm and corporation.
