Legal Counsel - Patents Duties: Counseling the company on patent-related matters. Develop and implement legal approaches and processes for our patent program globally. Will have immediate impact with analytic rigor, uncanny judgment, effective counseling, and ability to get things done. Help improve and scale legal department processes to keep up with rapid growth, particularly with respect to patent development and open source. Take accountability for important issues and decisions and see them through. Manage internal projects, trainings, processes, and drive cross-functional efforts to successful completion. Manage patent portfolio activities for certain technology areas, including proactive invention harvesting, application preparation, and prosecution. Work closely with engineering, product, and design teams on patent prosecution efforts; manage related outside counsel activities. Work closely with engineering and business regarding all aspects of our patent practice, with an emphasis on patent development. Support patent matters relating to M&A, including analysis, strategy and diligence; manage related outside counsel activities.
Qualification and Experience
Requirements: JD Degree, admitted to the Bar, strong academic record. BS or Master’s degree in computer science, EE, or related field. U.S. Patent and Trademark Office registration (USPTO). 3-5 years of patent prosecution experience. Prior in-house experience managing a patent portfolio a plus. Strong technical background, industry experience a plus. Experience drafting/prosecuting software patent applications. Experience counseling patent development and working closely with designers, engineers, and product management. Excellent writing, communication, and organizational skills. Great interpersonal skills and ability to work well in fast-paced team environment.
