Global IP Counsel Duties: Work with scientific personnel and/or outside patent counsel to develop invalidity and/or non-infringement opinions regarding competitor patents, both in the U.S. and abroad. Regularly monitor the issuance and/or publication of competitor patents and applications, both in the U.S. and abroad, and advise on the impact of such to the Company. Regularly monitor competitor patent infringement litigations and advise on the impact of such on the Company’s products. Work with scientific personnel and/or outside counsel to draft and prosecute patent applications for the Company’s inventions, both in the U.S. and abroad. Police such patents for infringement by third parties. Review and/or negotiate intellectual property agreements. Perform due diligence investigations of companies and/or products in which the Company is interested. Strategize and counsel Company regarding implications of varied patent certifications. Interpret laws, rulings, and regulations for the Corporation. Perform research for trademark applications, monitor trademark prosecution, and handle communications with Trademark Office.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree or equivalent and 10+ years of experience. A J.D. Degree and 5 years of experience preferred. Chemistry, Biology, or Pharmaceutical Science background preferred; organic chemistry background preferred. Combination of experience and/or education is considered. Must be licensed in one or more jurisdictions and admitted to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). Excellent written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal skills, management skills, strong work ethic, consensus gathering skills, organizational skills, and a working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and Lotus Notes. Ability to independently determine and develop solutions to complex legal issues. Solutions must imaginative, thorough, practicable and consistent with organization objectives. May reference established precedents and policies. Knowledge, complete understanding and wide application of legal principles, theories and concepts in the IP field. Working knowledge of industry practices. General knowledge of other related disciplines. Special knowledge and experience in area of IP.
