Profile

Attorney The candidate will work closely with product development teams to develop IP strategies using various types of IP to develop meaningful IP assets. Will ensure that patent filings are of high quality and focused on commercially significant inventions by working with R&D, clinical, and product management teams. Work with business’ marketing and engineering functions and patent evaluation boards to review invention disclosures. Prepare high quality patent applications, efficiently advance prosecution of pending patent applications, and manage global patent portfolio to ensure that meaningful protection is obtained. Conduct and review patent-ability studies for disclosed inventions and technologies. Closely manage the quality and content of selected U.S. patent applications prepared and prosecuted by GE’s preferred providers of patent services. Participate on and lead teams focused on the development and nurturing of GE’s IP professionals, and GE’s tools, processes and best practices relating to the creation and management of patent and other IP rights. This development and nurturing will enhance the positive impact IP has on each business’ bottom-line growth and also yield increased levels of productivity in the GPO and across the GE IP function. Bachelor's of Science or Master of Science degree in electrical engineering, physics or computer science is needed. Must have 3+ years of experience drafting and prosecuting U.S. and global patent applications in the electrical/computer science arts. Must be registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) is essential. Should have 2+ years of experience as a member of the technology, sales and marketing, or legal functions in a corporate environment. Should have good standing to practice law in at least one U.S. state (applies to Attorneys only). Demonstrated understanding and command of U.S. patent laws and regulations, U.S. Patent and Trademark Office practices and procedures, Paris Convention rules and Patent Cooperation Treaty rules and practice is essential. Experience in handling a wide variety of patent procurement matters including reviewing invention disclosures, making well-reasoned patent applications filing decisions, preparing and filing high quality patent applications, and appealing adverse patent-ability decisions is advantageous. Experience working in the field of medical imaging systems is needed.
