Corporate Counsel, Patents The candidate will directly interact with the businesses and technology teams to protect new and innovative equipment and systems. Responsibilities include: actively engaging developers and engineers to identify protectable aspects of their innovations, working with outside counsels on the preparation, filing and prosecution of our growing US and foreign patent portfolio, counseling clients regarding patent issues arising within the context of business transactions, hiring, partner engagements, and new product and service introductions. Should have J.D. degree and membership in good standing in at least one State Bar. Must be admitted to the Washington State Bar Association. Should also be registered to practice before the USPTO. Must have 6+years of legal experience (with 2+ years at a law firm) as a patent attorney. Should preferably have understanding of a wide variety of technology areas including: digital content creation, transmission and services, digital user experience, search, machine learning, web services, and e-commerce. Ability to identify effective methods of protecting intellectual property created from software, hardware and internet related products and services is required. Should have ability to be responsible for patent related activities for several business and technology teams, including training the business on patent filing and strategy, idea harvesting, management of patent application preparation and prosecution, clearance, and assisting in patent acquisitions and licensing. Should also have ability to counsel other lawyers regarding patent and related intellectual property issues that affect the business. Personal experience preparing and prosecuting at least 20 patent applications relating to computer-implemented inventions is needed.
