Senior Patent Attorney The candidate will be managing the Company’s trademark portfolio, including preparing and prosecuting domestic and international trademark applications and overseeing the trademark and branding review committee. Will be protecting trademark, copyright, and domain name rights through appropriate surveillance and enforcement activities. Client counseling on IP matters including integrating IP considerations into business plans, enterprise IP risk management and mitigation strategies, and strategies for enhancing the scope and strength of the IP portfolio. Transaction support including development agreements, licensing agreements, acquisitions, divestitures, and strategic alliances, including evaluating potential opportunities and communicating recommendations to internal clients. Supervising outside counsel in the preparation and prosecution of patent applications both domestically and internationally. Supporting litigation activities and advising clients on potential and pending litigation. Collaborating within legal to ensure IP issues are appropriately managed. Drafting and negotiating IP-related agreements including license agreements and non-disclosure agreements, and advising the corporate contracts group regarding IP terms in commercial transactions. Working with the compliance team to prepare and present IP-related client training. Managing invention generation via facilitated focused invention sessions, brainstorms, and strategic IP harvests. Managing and coordinating portfolio review and formulating business-specific IP strategies. Managing the associated budget.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate must have Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school and Good standing in the Bar(s) where licensed to practice law with a preference for licensure in California. Should preferably have degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or related fields. Must have 5-10 years legal experience in a wide range of IP matters including trademark portfolio management, patent portfolio management, client counseling, due diligence activities, licensing, and IP litigation support. Experience at both a law firm and a corporation is a plus. USPTO Registration is needed. Background in physics, material science, or chemistry is desired.
