Patent Counsel The candidate will be an active member of the Intellectual Property Group providing support in all aspects of patent development and prosecution. Reviewing and filing provisional and utility patent applications and responding to Office Actions and other USPTO correspondence. Drafting provisional and utility patent applications, performing prior and patentability searches, evaluation of third party patents. Patent Application Preparation: Prepare patent applications and filing them with the U.S. Patent Office for Canon Companies in the U.S. and abroad. Patent applications may be any type of patent application, for example, provisional applications, continuation applications, divisional applications, reissue applications and national stage applications. Patent Application Prosecution: Includes all prosecution activities for patent applications filed in the U.S. Patent Office, including preparation and filing of amendments, preparation and filing of Information Disclosure Statements, Examiner Interviews and Appeals.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate must have a Bachelor's Degree in one of the following disciplines: engineering, computer science, physics, mathematics. Admission to practice before USPTO is required. 5+ years of prior patent/IP experience in Industrial R & D or academia, is required. Strong written and verbal communication skills with technical depth and patent expertise, a high degree of attention to detail, an ability to organize assignments, work under pressure and meet deadlines.
