Senior IP Counsel The candidate will work creatively to leverage their technical and patent law experience to meet the goals of the group while participating in and driving the acceleration of the adoption of LED technologies. Help capture and protect the company globally. Manage a large portfolio of patents to maintain the highest level of quality with a focus toward maximizing the value of the portfolio for monetization. Personally write a number of patent applications and office action responses. Manage outside counsel in drafting and filing patent applications, and responses to office actions. Gain and use technical expertise to become IP technical expert in an area of lighting, including, lighting control systems, networking and wireless control, user interfaces, lighting power electronics, LED drivers, and LED lamps and systems. Review and evaluate invention disclosures, critically analyzing new ideas and concepts. Interact with Inventors to steer and encourage ID submissions and research activities with the aim of harvesting IDs. Actively participate in patent review committees to prioritize patent filings, subsequent filings, deciding on maintaining patent rights in a particular technology area. Develop a strong overview and understanding of the general business activity and research activities in a particular technology area. A Bachelor’s degree, or higher, in Electronics, Computer Science, Physics or related field and a JD in Law from an accredited Law School; Admission to practice law in at least one state in the US; and Admission to practice as a Patent Attorney before the USPTO required. 5+ years of practical full time experience writing and prosecuting patent applications essential. Experience managing a portfolio of patents; experience regularly interacting with clients and inventors; ability to make decisions and work independently; preferably demonstrated ability to supervise and mentor others in the area of patent prosecution. Experience drafting legal opinions and providing counseling in trademark in a law firm or corporate environment preferred.
