Claims Consultant Duties: Support of the Technology Insurance business unit. Handling and resolving complex, highly specialized Media, Cyber and Technology E&O claims through investigation, evaluation and disposition. Makes appropriate recommendations to management on coverage and settlement of these types of claims. Works with the business partners regarding claims trends and the overall legal climate impacting business. Makes timely and appropriate contacts and completes appropriate level of investigation to make determination of coverage, liability and damages for Media, Cyber and Technology E&O claims. Determines coverage, drafts coverage correspondence and responds to coverage questions raised by insureds and others. Determines exposure, establishes adequate reserves and makes timely adjustments as required. Selects, assigns and directs activities of internal and external resources as required; including independent adjusters, appraisers and attorneys. Identifies questionable claims and consults with others for further direction as appropriate. Determines settlement value of the loss and negotiates proper settlement of claims within authority. Documents clearly and concisely all relevant activity on assigned files and makes recommendations for additional activity as appropriate. Communicates as needed with underwriting business partners regarding claims trends and legal climate. Provides expertise and insight as requested relative to needed coverage changes or enhancements. Anticipates and meets all customer needs (internal and external). May coach or train less experienced claim representatives.
Qualification and Experience
Requirements: Bachelor’s degree required. JD Degree or related legal experience required. 7-10 years of legal experience or specialized claims handling experience, preferably in Media, Cyber and/or Technology E&O. Strong claims technical knowledge and legal climate background for Media, Cyber and Technology E&O claims is essential. Strong analytical and negotiation skills. Must have the ability to interact with customers. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must maintain a high level of accuracy, and provide follow-through on projects. Requires the ability to maintain confidential information and work independently and as a member of a team.
