ProfileMedical Malpractice Claims Supervisor The candidate will be responsible for the management of professional and general liability claims for assigned hospitals and physicians and provide guidance and day-to-day direction to the senior/claims consultants. Will advise clients regarding claim and risk management issues. Analyze claim submissions from clients and establish and maintain claim files and reserves. Conduct or assign investigations to Senior/Claims Consultants to ascertain all facts. Obtain consultant/expert reviews as needed. Evaluate liability or defensibility of claims. Notify excess/reinsurers as required and participate in claims audits. Negotiate settlements with claimants, families or attorneys as appropriate and within prescribed authority levels. Negotiate Medicare or other liens as necessary. Communicate with clients to obtain proper authority for settlement. Authorize invoices or settlement check requests for payment. Assign litigation and supervise outside defense counsel. Communicate with AVP regarding loss reserve increases, large losses, adverse claim development, status of litigation and trials. Prepare and present claims for roundtable discussions with staff. Attend pre-trials, mediation or trial as required. Prepare reports for MMSEA, Illinois Department of Insurance, Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation and the National Practitioner Data Bank. Prepare for and participate in client board, committee or claim meetings as requested. Prepare educational presentations for risk management meetings and/or for clients as requested. Assist AVP with contract and subpoena reviews. Collaborate with risk management and underwriting staff regarding claim trends and renewal issues. Bachelor's degree is required. J.D. degree and/or prior claims experience required. Knowledge of insurance and legal principles a plus.
