ProfileSenior Vice President , Claim House Counsel Manager The candidate will be responsible for all aspects of the overall management of the department as well as the quality of the legal representation and service provided by the House counsel offices, attorneys and staff professionals. Will report to the Senior Claim Officer. General supervision of the operations of the House Counsel offices; direct supervision of Regional Managing Attorneys, certain Managing Attorneys and National Operations Attorney. Establishing policies and procedures relating to legal case handling, service, client relations, ethics, operations, finance, personnel and training. Interacting with senior Claim, underwriting, human resource and corporate management. Maintaining quality legal representation and service in the casualty, financial lines and subrogation lines of business in all offices. Maintaining budgets and cost allocation processes. Oversight of the IT requirements and support for the department. Oversight of the department’s case review program and client survey initiatives. Managing the department’s internal and external marketing efforts. Maintaining the cost efficient operations of the offices. Providing strategic analysis and planning for the department including aligning as necessary the department’s capabilities in support of firm’s needs for legal counsel. Maintaining the highest ethical standards in all aspects of the department’s law practices and adherence to the Chubb Code of Business Practice.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have JD degree from an accredited law school and be admitted to the practice of law in one state and its U.S. District Courts where House Counsel offices are located, including New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Florida, Illinois, Texas, California. Must have 10-15 years of experience in litigating through trial and appeal a broad range of complex and high exposure cases in state and Federal courts. Experience should include a broad range of casualty insurance defense, errors and omissions, or director and officers cases for corporate, commercial and personal insureds or employment law litigation is essential. Must have in depth knowledge of current state and Federal procedural and substantive law. Must have demonstrated experience in communicating strategically with clients and customers. Must have demonstrated organizational, managerial, and leadership abilities through hands on management of a large law office in private practice, corporation or government. Must have experience in achieving operational efficiencies in a law practice and a sophisticated understanding of the role and benefits of technology in a litigation practice. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate and function effectively within an organizational structure are required.
