ProfileCoverage Counsel The candidate will draft legal advisory memoranda for claims teams which review and analyze claims facts, policies, and applicable law. Will draft correspondence to insureds regarding coverage. Determines legal issues raised by the claims, legal filings, statutes and common law. Reviews litigation filings, such as complaints and discovery responses to determine the parties involved, factual basis for claims, causes of action, and remedies requested. Researches state case law and statutory law applicable to claims. Advises Underwriting and other EMC teams regarding coverage and policy language. Creates and delivers training programs for all regional branch offices on specific coverage issues.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have Juris Doctorate (JD) degree. Must have Bar admission in at least one state. Must have 6+ years of experience in claims or litigation. Insurance designations desired. Excellent knowledge of insurance law and skills in legal research is required. Strong knowledge of the claim function along with insurance coverage comprehension is required. Must have strong knowledge of computers, research tools and claims systems.
