Associate Counsel Duties: Draft and modify policies, certificates, applications and related forms' language for STD, LTD, Life and other specialty insurance products. Provide policy, certificate, and form filing support and services (including responding to complex inquiries from departments of insurance). Provide legal advice on various state and federal (e.g., ERISA) laws related to insurance policy claims and other aspects of the company's business. Review and evaluate the impact of new laws and regulations. Work collaboratively with other members of the Legal/Compliance team, internal business partners and client representatives to ensure regulatory compliance and client satisfaction. Provide training to Compliance team as assigned. Act as a resource for complex Compliance work assignments. Participate on interdepartmental compliance projects. Review work of consultants for accuracy and completeness. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: J.D. degree and admitted to the practice of law in a United States jurisdiction and less than 4 years of experience practicing law required. 1 year experience in disability and/or life insurance industry required. Strong analytical, legal research and drafting skills. Ability to handle multiple and changing priorities in a fast-paced environment. Strong computer skills, proficient in a PC environment with MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint, Westlaw or NILS, and Internet as a research tool. Superior communication skills, both written (technical) and verbal, small group presentation skills. Ability to analyze data, critical thinking, problem solving skills and decision-making skills. Strong, self-motivation and ability to work independently, and as part of a team. Ability to initiate and prioritize regular work duties and projects; must be detailed oriented, organized, and possess time management skills. Ability to work professionally and effectively with co-workers, clients, claimants, vendors and others with whom DRMS does business. Disability claims and policy form compliance experience preferred. Experience dealing with departments of insurance preferred.
