Underwriting Counsel The candidate will be responsible for the underwriting of commercial title insurance policies and related affirmative coverage requested by National Commercial Services’ customers. The primary responsibilities of a national underwriting counsel include: underwriting complex national commercial transactions, responding to underwriting queries from customers, commercial closing personnel, and production staff, making necessary revisions and amendments to title commitments, policies and endorsements, conducting periodic seminars on cutting edge topics to customers and assisting closing personnel with title comments, reviewing surveys, underwriting, etc. on multi- and single-site commercial transactions.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate must have law degree. Should have 5 years’ experience underwriting national commercial transactions. Must have solid understanding of endorsement and policy coverages along with experience in negotiating these coverages with principals and their attorneys. Should have demonstrated working knowledge of title insurance guidelines and real estate practices to include endorsement and policy availability. Must have demonstrated knowledge and comfort in making or crafting proactive underwriting decisions that simultaneously protect the company’s interest and satisfy the customer’s needs. Proven high level of communication skills necessary to work in a professional services team environment. Should have outstanding underwriting capabilities and customer service skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and related programs are needed. Must have proven superior organizational skills.
