Director Risk Management Duties: Responsible for the facility’s risk management activities which include assisting with the management of general and professional liability claims against the facility, interfacing with defense legal counsel, interfacing with Risk Management and Legal Departments, administering the clinical risk management program on a day-to-day basis, managing and analyzing risk management data. Serve as the Patient Safety Officer. He/she is responsible for coordinating the hospital’s Patient Safety Program, including: facilitating systems analysis to promote and improve patient safety, conducting and facilitating risk management educational programs based upon availability and identified needs and compliance with state and federal laws and regulations and TJC standards relating to risk management and patient safety. Patient Safety Services (Clinical Risk Management/Patient Safety) can be defined as the identification, investigation, analysis and evaluation of risks and the selection of the most advantageous method of correcting, reducing or eliminating identifiable risks. The purpose of the hospital clinical risk management function is to coordinate and facilitate the activities to prevent and/or minimize losses associated with identifiable risks and to minimize and prevent claims of general and professional liability against the hospital. In doing so, the loss prevention function focuses on and promotes patient safety. The clinical risk management activities may also include those associated with automobile claims and property losses.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: Graduate of an approved School of Nursing; Bachelor’s or JD Degree in health care related field. Current RN license to practice in the State of Oklahoma in good standings. Risk Management Certification preferred. 5+ years' experience in a health care related field including 5 years patient safety experience. Management experience required. Demonstrated high level of performance; strong organization skills; clinical knowledge base; strong interpersonal skills; strong negotiation skills; teaching skills, communication skills; ability to interpret regulatory and accreditation requirements; innovative thinking; ability to assimilate large amounts of data; ability to tactfully address issues in a non-threatening manner. Ability to speak, read, and write English is required.
