Claims Consultant - Complex Claim Unit The candidate will handle claims nationwide rather than by region. Will handle particular types of complex litigation with an emphasis on New York Labor Law. Other types of claims handled by this unit include unsupported excess (Auto and GL), complex coverage related claims, class actions, as well as Advertising Injury. Will be involved in frequent verbal and written interaction with executives. Work on highly complex investigations of claims, analyze coverage, liability, compensability and damages. Determine if a major claim should be settled or litigated. Manage all types of investigative activity on major claims. Coordinate discovery and litigation strategy with staff counsel or panel attorneys. Negotiate highly complex settlement packages, set reserves and authorize payment within scope of authority, settling claims in most cost effective manner and ensuring timely issuance of disbursements. Coordinate third party recovery with subrogation/salvage unit. Make recommendations on claims policy and processes to management. Analyze claims activities. Prepare and present reports to management. Work with attorneys, account representatives, agents, doctors and insureds regarding the handling and/or disposition of highly complex claims. Keep current on state/territory regulations and issues, industry activity and trends. May participate in industry trade groups. May provide guidance and assistance to less experienced claims staff and other functional areas. May be responsible for special claims projects and presentations.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. J.D. degree or professional designation preferred. Must have 8 years of general liability claim experience. New York Labor Law claims experience is preferred. Should be a general liability adjuster with a solid working background in New York Labor Law or equivalent statutory labor law framework. Licenses in multiple states and experience with more complex coverage issues and litigation management strategies desired. Should have advanced technical and product specific expertise, claims resolution skill and knowledge of insurance and claims principles, practices and procedures.
