Profile

National Directors and Officers (D&O) Product Lead Duties: Reports up to the Underwriting Officer for Financial Products, within the office of the Chief Underwriting Officer, Specialty. Will have responsibility for providing leadership and underwriting excellence for Director’s and Officers Liability. Will be responsible for establishing, directing and implementing the overall portfolio management strategy of the assigned product(s) across multiple business units. Partners closely with the line of business leaders of the Management Liability, Health Care and Financial institutions groups to ensure profit, growth, and strategic targets are met across the portfolios. Performs a combination of duties in partnership with segment and industry leadership: Drives implementation of strategic and operational objectives with an impact on the short-term success of the industry segments and a significant impact on the long-term success of Management liability product(s) across multiple business units. Ensures effective product portfolio management across multiple industries for the Director’s and Officers, Employment Practices or Fiduciary product. Owns product ideation/creation and implementation for the assigned product(s). Develops and maintains underwriting guidelines and best practices, in accordance with federal and state regulations, to ensure the integrity of the Director’s and Officers, Employment Practices and/or Fiduciary Liability suite of product. Ensures the achievement of continued profitability, growth and/or operational efficiencies for the Management Liability suite of products through assessment of risk tolerance, market appetite and emerging risk issues. Develops and integrates product highlight messaging in to line of business and to external distribution partners. Evaluates underwriting performance based on financial analysis. Includes rate, reserve adequacy, operational, planning and product reviews. Provides results to members of the senior management team and develops plans to resolve issues. Provides overall direction for underwriting authority delegation, audit criteria and catastrophe management for the Directors and Officers, Employment Practices or Fiduciary Liability product. Through the indirect management of Underwriters, assesses underwriting talent, determines skill gaps, assists in developing appropriate training programs, transfers knowledge and provides coaching, feedback, and mentoring. Partners with Industry Leaders, Zone Leaders and Business Owners to assess Underwriters and determines authority levels based on skill set and performance. Acts as senior level referral leader for exceptions to strategy, guidelines and authority for the Directors and Officers, Employment Practices or Fiduciary Liability product. Provides technical expertise as part of enterprise projects, development of strategy, creation of white papers, conference speakers, and in the development and training for Underwriter skill and performance improvements. Understands and remains current on emerging trends and issues, and proactively communicates and educates leaders and Underwriters to keep them informed. Communicates product specific exposures to external customers and distribution trading partners. Attends industry conventions and develops relationships with key producers to effectively market products. Collaborates with Management Liability, Health Care and Financial Institutions business segments, including the respective Product and Industry Leaders, and business partners in Risk Control, Actuarial, Claim, Worldwide Operations, Shared Services, Product Development, Legal and Compliance to address governance and compliance issues related to underwriting practices. Conducts research, analysis and development of insurance products and endorsements to existing product suite. Assimilates trends in the industry, determines underwriting best practices and contributes to training/development curricula for Directors and Officers, Employment Practices or Fiduciary Liability product. May participate in rating bureau boards to keep abreast of industry, rating, coverage and benefit issues. Fosters relationships with insurance commissioners and regulators. May perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualification and Experience

Qualification Requirements: MBA degree or its equivalent in experience. 10+ years of underwriting experience with a proven track record of results. In-depth technical knowledge of underwriting theories and practices or litigation exposures for Director’s and Officers, Employment Practices or Fiduciary Liability. In-depth knowledge of the management liability products in the commercial, health care and/or financial institutions segment. Ability to influence as a dynamic leader in a matrix operating environment. Ability to effectively interact and communicate with all levels of external and/or internal business partners within scope of responsibility, team and/or matrix environment. Leadership and management skills, demonstrating integrity and professionalism. Ability to drive results by identifying, and resolving problems within scope of responsibility. Knowledge of the insurance industry, its products and services. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other business-related software.

Preferred Qualifications : Juris Doctorate or Bachelor’s degree with Master’s in a related discipline, or equivalent work related experience. 10 years of related underwriting, claim, litigation or portfolio management experience. 2 years of Management Liability product leadership for Director’s and Officers, Employment Practices or Fiduciary Liability; or equivalent claim, litigation or portfolio management experience.
