Senior Counsel The candidate will support the firm's day-to-day employment related legal needs from one of the firm's California offices. This position focuses on providing strategic legal counsel and risk management advice to Human Resources and management on a wide variety of employment-related matters, including with respect to recruiting; hiring; affirmative action (federal and state); employee relations; discipline; terminations; internal investigations; workplace accommodations; various leaves of absence; benefits; wage and hour compliance; EEO compliance; restrictive covenants; and contingent worker issues. Leverage skills as a strategic business partner and work with colleagues and internal clients to provide sound and strategic legal and risk management advice to ensure compliance with applicable law, regulations and the firm's policies and procedures.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have a J.D. degree. Should be currently practicing in California with an employment law-based practice. Must have 5+ years of experience as a practicing lawyer focused on employment counseling and/or employment regulatory/litigation. Should also have 3+ years of experience with a law firm. AmLaw 100 (or 200 with recognized employment practice) preferred. Proven record of professional excellence and achievement as a practicing attorney in good standing, required. Experience counseling clients on legal risk and compliance, and working directly with human resources and/or management, preferred. Experience conducting and/or directing investigations with respect to allegations of violations of company policies and/or employment laws, desired. Experience advising clients on workplace accommodations, leaves, and the interplay between the ADA, the FMLA, and related state laws, an asset. Knowledge of California (state and local) employment laws and regulations, required. Experience (law-firm or in-house) supporting a professional/consulting services business, desired. ERISA/employee benefits experience, a plus. SharePoint experience preferred. Should have willingness to travel periodically as needed.
