Information Technology Paralegal Duties: Under general supervision, will report to and support to the Chief Privacy Officer and the Office of Technology Services. Researches and analyzes law sources such as statutes, recorded judicial decisions, legal articles, constitutions, and legal codes in reference to education data privacy and security. Interprets and establishes policies and best practices regarding federal Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and other federal and state privacy laws. Stays abreast of concepts, practices and procedures around education data privacy. Maintains inventories of technology applications and assist with creating policies around application access and data security. Provides training to state and local education agency staff on data security and data privacy. Creates and maintains various reports on data access and data privacy.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: 4 years of experience as a legal assistant in a legal environment –OR- a certificate from a paralegal training program and 2 years of experience in a legal or other business environment –OR- an Associate Degree in Paralegal studies.Excellent verbal and written communications skills are critical. Preferred: Knowledge of education data privacy laws and policies. Experience with preparing legal documents such as Memorandum of Understanding and agency policies. Experience in gathering and interpreting regulatory provisions and present findings. Experience with conducting training workshops with large audiences. Strong proficiency in Lexis Nexis and Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe.
