Profile

Director Information Governance and Records Management Duties: Responsible for leading Information Governance (IG) efforts, including, the Records and Information Management (RIM) program. Responsible for all aspects of records management for Abbott globally. It entails working with stakeholders across organizational levels, divisions and countries to ensure records management practices are implemented to: Enhance compliance with legal, regulatory, financial, and operational record keeping requirements (e.g., appropriate retention, defensible destruction). Increase value and visibility of information (e.g., findability, analytics). Reduce costs and risks (e.g., storage costs, eDiscovery processing, regeneration of information). Responsible for compliance with applicable Corporate and Divisional Policies and procedures. Collaborating with key IG stakeholders, including, but not limited to, eDiscovery, Privacy, Security, Analytics, Enterprise Architecture, and IT Infrastructure to develop and implement the company’s IG and RIM programs. Ensuring that the IG and RIM programs govern information assets in all formats, including hard-copy and electronic. Ensuring that the IG and RIM programs comply with applicable legal and regulatory requirements in relevant jurisdictions. Developing strategies and procedures to ensure the classification, confidentiality, privacy, security, retention and disposition of company information. Developing and overseeing the implementation of a strategic program applying industry-leading practices and methodologies to support the achievement of short, medium and long-term goals. Developing and implementing the policies and guidelines for the management of all Abbott information. Maintaining the company global retention schedule, including any country-specific records retention requirements applicable outside the U.S. Building a systematic, methodical, and legally defensible practice to discard unneeded information. Selecting and leveraging technology to achieve efficiencies (e.g., auto-classification, analytics, deletion). Providing records management oversight during acquisition and divestiture activities. Overseeing the management of physical records maintained in the Abbott records center, divisional records rooms and third party facilities. Managing the annual departmental budget and capital requirements.

Qualification and Experience

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required. An advanced degree, such as a Law Degree is preferred. Professional certifications in various technical areas related to IG are preferred (e.g., Information Governance Professional (IGP), Certified Records Manager (CRM), Electronic Records Management (ERM), Enterprise Content Management (ECM)). Must have 3+ years experience managing a global records program, or advising companies in this space. Must have a very strong background in information technology to effectively address evolving needs related to the management of electronic records including but not limited to: 1) structured data in IT systems, 2) unstructured data repositories (e.g., file shares, email, SharePoint) and 3) digital content (e.g., social media, websites). Must be a strategic thinker who challenges the status quo and is able to develop/implement the IG and records management vision for the company. Must be able to analyze many different types of problems, evaluate potential solutions, make decisions and develop/implement complete and creative solutions. Must have excellent presentation and communications skills. Must have the ability to influence vertically and horizontally across the organization. Must have the ability to manage multiple projects under tight timelines. Must be able to provide leadership, direction and coaching/development to staff. Good records management is essential to preserving information required for legal, regulatory and business purposes, while at the same time building a systematic, methodical, and legally defensible practice to discard unneeded information.
