Director, Law Library and Associate University Librarian, Law School Duties: Serves as a senior manager who reports jointly to the Dean of the School of Law and the University Librarian and has responsibility for all aspects of library operations, including: budgeting, facility planning, hiring and supervision of library staff, collection development, oversight of technology needs, strategic planning with respect to the future growth and development of the law library, and initiating and monitoring library programs and services. develops innovative strategic plans for a next-generation law library that combines traditional information strategies with new information resources and emerging technologies that enhance the library’s research, teaching and information services; and develops, monitors and prioritizes $2M annual operating budget. Manages Law Library collection development plans and activities to ensure that the Law Library's collection and resources are sufficient to meet the primary goal of supporting the teaching and research needs of the School of Law's faculty, staff and students; manages a staff of 6.5 FTE professional and 4 support staff; initiates and monitors library programs and services; general supervision of the Law Library’s legal research program; manages and develops short and long range plans for Law Library facilities; develops strategic plans for all aspects of Law Library operations including facilities, staff, technology, collections, and services. Ensures that the Law Library is in compliance with accreditation standards of the American Bar Association and the Association of American Law Schools. Participates in Law School committee service, scholarship, and/or other administrative responsibilities. Serves as a member of the University Librarian’s Council; Supports the Law Library's relations with the Law School, the University, library consortia, and professional organizations; Represents the Law School and University by providing leadership and service in local, state, regional and national professional organizations.

Qualification and Experience

Qualification Requirements: A J.D., M.L.S. or Ph.D. degree. 5+ years of law library or analogous professional experience with a history of increasingly responsible administrative, managerial, and/or supervisory duties. Has an understanding of the major changes occurring in legal education and the practice of law, and the resulting challenges facing academic law libraries in areas such as collection development, technology integration, space planning and utilization, and the need for effective staff and organizational development to support rapidly changing user needs and expectations. Familiarity with emerging technologies in legal information and library services, and ability to promote their effective use and integration. Ability to make sound and informed decisions; to perceive the impact and implications of decisions; and to commit to action, even in uncertain circumstances. Ability to provide vision and goals for the library. Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to function effectively in a team environment and to work effectively with a wide variety of people. Ability to foster collegiality, cooperation, and consensus-building. Knowledge of legal resources and legal research strategies. Broad knowledge/understanding of library information systems.

Preferred Qualifications: M.L.S. and J.D. degree. Experience with planning, budgeting, and human resources management. Experience with selecting legal materials and in making collection decisions.
