Director, Legal Operations The candidate will be primarily responsible for developing and maintaining the department’s IT systems, tools and processes and its knowledge management program. Assist the General Counsel with various elements of process improvement, metrics and analytics, and general administration and operations of the Legal Department. Partner with IT and Procurement to enhance existing technology systems and tools, and to assess and implement new technology systems and tools (including cloud-based systems and tools), to support the Legal Department’s most efficient, productive and collaborative operations – both internally and with external legal service providers. Manage system and tool deployments and enhancements and related process guidelines. Manage relationships with providers of legal technology systems and tools. Partner with IT on department technology roadmap. Supervise and/or manage various projects and initiatives relating to the Legal Department’s guiding principles and objectives. Design, implement and manage the Legal Department’s continuing legal education (CLE) / training program. Supervise the development and maintenance of the Legal Department’s internal website and intra-department portal. Supervise the future development and maintenance of a legal self-service portal (likely in SharePoint), focused on the transparency and availability of legal practice and operations information. Update and maintain contact and subject-matter expert lists for internal corporate resources and external legal service providers. Assist in aggregating and organizing relevant legal collateral and related materials from Legal Department members and external legal service providers. Track and manage CLE requirements and professional association memberships. Analyze existing processes for law and compliance matter management, including allocation of matters to internal and external resources, and tracking and following-up through matter life cycle. Determine how to improve leverage and reporting from the Legal Tracker matter management and e-billing platform. Work with Legal Department personnel to develop process improvements that promote cost reductions and other efficiencies. Develop and oversee Legal Department operational dashboard of various indicators to facilitate resource allocation and other management decisions. Develop and oversee Key Performance Indicators for monitoring and reporting of Legal Department performance. Coordinate department meetings and annual Legal Summit, including scheduling, technical support, and communications and meeting materials, and prepare and implement surveys and after-action reports. Assist General Counsel with recommendations to maximize resources and performance. A Bachelor’s degree required (from an accredited institution with an excellent academic record). An MBA or JD preferred. 4+ years of relevant administrative / operational experience at a large, national law firm or with an in-house corporate legal department required. Demonstrated project / process management experience and proactive approach to recognizing needs, solving problems, anticipating issues and developing solutions required. Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (365) required.
