Immigration Attorney or BIA Accredited Representative Duties: Providing legal counseling to clients on immigration options. Representing clients before the U.S. Department of Homeland Security in applications: Primarily U Visa applications, VAWA self-petitions, T Visa applications and similar applications; also including Adjustment of Status applications and consular processing. Representing clients in removal proceedings in Immigration Court on rare occasions. Ensure that all assigned legal services are provided in accordance with applicable State and Local regulatory requirements, Catholic Charities Board Policies, Social Service Division Policies, and the Catholic Charities Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct. Effectively represent Catholic Charities at community functions and at other events as requested or needed - presenting on immigration law and benefits available to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. Conduct trainings and community outreach and education events in rural communities; some travel is required. Other duties as assigned by the Program Coordinator and Immigration Program Manager, including grant related activities.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: JD degree from an accredited law school and admission to bar in any state. Or Accreditation from/willingness to apply for Accreditation with the Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA). 1+ year experience practicing immigration law preferred. Sensitivity to and experience with crime victims. An ability to convey concern and establish trusting, caring relationship with clients by way of active listening and supportive communication. Proven written and oral communications skills in English and Spanish. Spanish fluency preferred, proficiency required. Proficiency using immigration forms software; general computer skills required. Must demonstrate some degree of cultural competency - possessing a working understanding of Latino cultures - specifically peoples immigrating from Mexico and Central America. Experience with low-income and culturally diverse populations. Experience or willingness to work with law enforcement systems and personnel. Ability to work independently, as well as coordinate and communicate openly as a member of the ILS team. Ability to work well under pressure; good organizational skills, able to handle a large and demanding caseload. Must have driver’s license, access to vehicle and ability to obtain automobile insurance at levels required by agency (100/300/100). Successful completion of civil, criminal and motor vehicle background checks. Closing Date: October 16, 2015
