Staff Attorney (Immigration Project) Duties: Provide legal representation and counseling in the Central Valley in the areas of naturalization, DACA/DAPA, VAWA, U-visas, human trafficking, UUM and/or removal defense, especially on behalf of Southeast Asian and Latino clients. Conduct bilingual community education and outreach. Staff clinics throughout the Central Valley and East Bay Area at sites accessible to the low-income consumers. Provide technical assistance and training to community and public agencies. Represent the organization at community, legal, funding, and other meetings and functions. Assist with administrative work of the organization. Assist with overflow cases from housing, violence against women, and/or elder/disability rights projects.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: Must be a member in good standing of the California Bar. 1+ years' experience in representing low-income and non-English speaking clients. Commitment to social justice and experience working on behalf of underserved immigrant communities. Strong advocacy and courtroom skills. Bilingual and bicultural skills relevant to the low-income immigrant communities. In particular individuals who are native speakers of Tagalog or Spanish. Ability to work well in a team-oriented, multi-cultural work environment. Preferred: Successful experience in serving API’s target populations and working in disadvantaged communities of color. Working knowledge of Abacus Law and Essential Forms. Experience in working with survivors of violence against women and other victims of trauma.
