Staff Attorney Candidate will work with other attorneys and legal assistants in a small, busy non-profit. Will be responsible for providing direct immigration legal services to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and other violent crimes. Duties include: Conducting client intake, case assessment, and ongoing case management; researching and drafting legal documents; attending court hearings; and regularly using Microsoft Office, Abacus software and forms, and Google Docs/Spreadsheets. Will work collaboratively with social service and law enforcement agencies. Will primarily work with providing relief under the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), the U visa, Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS), Asylum, and Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). Will also supervise legal assistants, law students and other volunteers.
Qualification and Experience
Candidate should have degree and active Bar admission (or those expecting results in November) with any state. California Bar admission is preferred. 1-2 years of immigration law practice, VAWA and U visa experience is preferred. Oral and written Spanish language fluency is needed.
