Assistant General Counsel II - Healthcare The candidate works in support of the General Counsel in duties relating to the legal representation of all company Divisions. Provides legal advice and support concerning all aspects of healthcare law with particular emphasis on regulatory compliance, commercial contract review, advice, negotiations and transactions for various business lines, including, but not limited to Pharmacy, Laboratory, Pharma and company specific to Privacy matters. Assists in the formulation of business strategies, structuring and development of new businesses, programs and processes relating to company healthcare operations and reimbursement for healthcare services. Provides a variety of legal counsel and support to functional and/or operational groups within the company. Participates in the resolution of a wide range of business, contractual, financial and operational issues relating to healthcare operations and healthcare reimbursement. Collaborates with the internal Government Affairs team to develop advocacy strategies related to key policy issues. Establishes working relationships with professional organizations, trade associations and other key third parties to influence outcomes of critical policy issues. Manages law firms and other outsourced resources involved in key healthcare operations and reimbursement projects to optimize project outcomes. Works across the organization and develops strong internal and external relationships to achieve operational goals and objectives. Manages outside counsel and other consultants on long-term legal/regulatory projects. Handles other duties as assigned by the General Counsel, Deputy General Counsel and Associate General Counsel.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have a J.D. degree from an accredited college or university. Should be admitted to practice in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts or another state. Master of Public Health or Master of Business Administration preferred. Must have 6+ years of experience with commercial and/or healthcare law and/or healthcare regulatory compliance. Should have strong legal analytical, research, drafting, negotiation and communication skills to: identify and manage complex legal issues related to the company's healthcare businesses; develop and implement creative solutions; and regularly advise senior executives on matters of strategic importance to the company's businesses. Must have relevant experience includes counseling of one or more of the following: dialysis providers, pharmacies, clinical laboratories, ambulatory surgery centers, pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers, managed care and integrated care companies.
