University Counsel Duties: Assist the Office of General Counsel (OGC) in providing legal counsel to Stanford University, Stanford Health Care, Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital, University HealthCare Alliance, Packard Children’s Health Alliance and affiliates. Reports to the General Counsel of Stanford University and offers exposure to the practice of law in a university environment. Legal review, advice, analysis, interpretation and support in some or all of the following areas: acquisitions, business, compliance with applicable federal and state laws and regulations, contracts, risk management, healthcare, overseas operations, intellectual property, litigation support, conducting factual and legal research, and may include coordination with outside legal counsel. Responsible for overseeing all of the legal affairs of Stanford University with over 18K students and more than 15K part-time and full-time employees.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: A lawyer with legal experience in another context (0-5 years) who is interested in transitioning to a career as a higher education lawyer. A JD from an accredited law school, excellence in academic credentials, judgment, writing, analytical and communication skills; proficiency and comfort with computer technology, committed to teamwork, responsive, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including writing ability, and admitted (or admission pending) to a Bar within the United States. California bar preferred.
