Associate Counsel The candidate will perform legal work as assigned, with a focus on general healthcare matters. Scope of issues will include to: Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement; Stark, Anti-Kickback, and other fraud and abuse related issues; physician compensation issues; and transactional matters. Will also be responsible for drafting, reviewing, and analyzing contracts, and will represent Health in mental health commitment proceedings. Provide legal advice and services on a broad array of issues facing Health and its related entities, with a focus on healthcare operational and regulatory advice. Provide day-to-day legal counsel on regulatory and transactional matters that affect healthcare entities, including but not limited to Stark, AKS, HIPAA, Conditions of Participation, and compliance. Monitor changes in relevant regulatory areas and provide education on those changes to organizational leaders, as well as Legal Services and Compliance. Draft, review, analyze and negotiate various contracts. Provide legal advice on physician compensation practices. Draft, review and revise Health policies and procedures. Provide advice and counsel on matters related to medical staff. Provides training on relevant legal topics. Represent Legal Services on various Health committees and work groups, as requested. Represent Health in mental health commitment hearings and handle appeals as they arise. And perform other job related duties as assigned. Must have JD degree from ABA-accredited law school. Must possess a valid license to practice law in the State of Indiana. Must have 5+ years of relevant experience in healthcare law. Relevant healthcare regulatory experience, including prior experience with hospitals or healthcare systems, Medicare and Medicaid, Stark, Anti-Kickback, EMTALA, Conditions of Participation, HIPAA and Joint Commission. Experience in contracting and compliance also helpful.
