Senior Health Plan Corporate Counsel Duties: Will involve extensive contact with senior management and with representatives of the business units and corporate functions across the organization in multiple offices. Analyze, negotiate and draft complex commercial agreements that are subject to myriad state and federal statutes, regulations and administrative rules. Managing complex legal projects and providing appropriate advice that is informed by realistic risk assessment. Providing legal support for various departments and cross-disciplinary teams, such as provider network relations, claims processing, customer service, marketing, product development, corporate shared services, and regulatory affairs. Negotiating, drafting, and interpreting health care network provider agreements such as physician, medical group, hospital, and pharmacy related agreements. Providing legal guidance and support to in connection with responses to requests for proposals, and other expansion activities. In collaboration with compliance professionals, providing counsel regarding data privacy issues including HIPAA. In collaboration with compliance professionals and other in-house counsel, monitoring and interpreting state and federal regulatory requirements and interacting with regulators to ensure the company’s regulatory compliance.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: Candidates should have strong academic credentials and 5-12 years of legal experience in law firm or in-house settings, ideally with demonstrated expertise in health insurance and managed care. Must be a member in good standing of a state bar; Florida provides for in-house counsel admission without examination. There is a strong preference for lawyers with substantial experience in the Medicare and Medicaid programs, and with health care provider contracting. Must have outstanding professional skills, sound judgment, and must be capable of working independently in a fast-paced environment while effectively managing multiple projects and competing priorities. Must be adept at developing compliant and constructive solutions to the business challenges which arise in an industry that is highly regulated at the state and federal level. Hands-on, hard-working, “roll up your sleeves†style. Practical and business-oriented. Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, and the ability to communicate effectively throughout all levels of the organization. Personal presence, credibility, and the professional demeanor necessary to interact with company management, regulatory bodies, and business units with confidence and persuasiveness. A collaborative team player with an ability to play multiple roles. Adaptable; flexible; comfortable with uncertainty and ambiguity. Responsive and ready, willing and able to assist with new challenges. Able to influence a diverse set of stakeholders and drive to solutions. Efficient, with a propensity for action and a strong sense of ownership. Personal integrity, excellent judgment and ability to prioritize and make difficult decisions quickly.
