Sr Attorney Responsibilities : The candidate will provide legal counsel to Nebraska Medicine in the areas of regulatory compliance, corporate transactions, nonprofit regulations, fraud and abuse, Stark and anti-kickback, equipment finance and software licensing, commercial real estate and mergers and acquisitions. Will also provide legal guidance on the implementation, maintenance of, and adherence to company's privacy program in compliance with federal and state laws and industry standards. Will represent the Affiliated Covered Entities (ACE) in legal discussions and matters impacting the privacy office. The ACE currently includes UNMC, Nebraska Medicine, UNMC Physicians, University Dental Associates, Bellevue Medical Center, LLC and the Nebraska Pediatric Practice, Inc. Will advise on applicable legal and contractual requirements in a number of key areas, and will provide general business advice to the client. Will draft and negotiate agreements including Business Associate Agreements with third parties and will provide legal counsel in privacy event investigations, including advising as to legal, regulatory and contractual requirements with respect to privacy events, and breach notification process under state/federal laws.

Qualification and Experience

Requirements : The candidate should have a Jurist doctorate degree. Should be currently licensed to practice law in the state of Nebraska. Master's degree in business administration (MBA) or health administration (MHA) preferred. Preferred experience in health care setting at an academic medical center or law firm preferred. Minimum of seven(7) years transactional/health care law work experience to include two years of privacy/HIPPA legal experience required. Knowledge of Privacy and HIPPA compliance required. Proficient in Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, Access and PowerPoint required. Ability to handle strict deadlines and juggle multiple tasks with ease required. Communication skills, both written and verbal required. Ability to create, compose and edit legal opinions and other written materials required. Interpersonal and negotiation skills required. Proficient in preparing and assembling data for legal documents, reports, presentations and other related legal functions required. Responsible for maintaining confidential information required. Ability to work effectively with external legal counsel required.
