Associate General Counsel The candidate will provide legal advice about a wide variety of issues relating to biomedical research activities at a large academic medical center and in collaboration with its strategic partners. Will serve as the primary attorney for firm School of Medicine Institutional Review Board (IRB) and Human Research Regulatory Affairs (HRRA) offices on all matters regarding human subject research protection. Provide day-to-day legal advice to faculty and administrators in connection with all research compliance matters, including NIH and other government research sponsor requirements, audits, inspections and investigations. Advise on research contracts and contract templates, including federal and non-federal grants, subawards, contracts, and subcontracts; clinical trial agreements; IRB reliance agreements; service and procurement agreements; consulting agreements; material transfer agreements; and nondisclosure agreements. Provide legal advice about a wide variety of issues relating to international research. Advise on HIPAA and data privacy laws with respect to research activities. Review and revise policies, procedures and training materials related to sponsored research and human subjects research. Conduct research misconduct and other investigations, working closely with the research integrity officer, faculty committees, and hearing panels. Review research-related subpoenas and other requests from governmental research sponsors related to third-party requests under the Freedom of Information Act. Develop policies, procedures and training materials related to record retention and information governance. Counsel the Medical Center Information Technology department about a wide range of research and non-research related matters, including HIPAA, data privacy, and cybersecurity. Provide legal advice about a wide variety of issues relating to medical education, including physician training and continuing medical education programs. Coordinate process, principles and practices with the attorneys in the Office of Legal Counsel. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate must have a Admission to the NY Bar with 5+ years of experience as a practicing lawyer in research regulatory matters and research contracting, preferably with experience in hospitals, health systems and/or academic medical centers; effective oral, written communication skills.
