Senior Counsel, Litigation Unit; Healthcare and Special Investigations Duties: Lead the development and implementation of comprehensive, coordinated company-wide legal strategies, policies and procedures to deter health care fraud and abuse and to recover losses related to health care fraud and abuse. Interface with key external constituents including state Attorneys General, and relevant state and federal regulators. Conduct internal investigations and advise clients in connection with internal audits and investigations Manage complex litigation disputes; negotiate (together with appropriate business persons and other lawyers), draft and/or approve settlement agreements relating to litigation, dispute resolution, regulatory disputes and commercial claims. Maintain an up-to-date understanding of, and proactively counsel the business on all significant legal and business external developments potentially affecting the Company's legal, regulatory and reputational risks and relevant court filings and decisions. Manage outside counsel effectively and efficiently, and consistent with applicable budgets. Share knowledge and skills in areas of subject matter expertise with other legal counsel, and key business partners in keeping with the legal department’s collegial atmosphere. Manage other corporate or class action litigation matters as appropriate.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: JD Degree from an accredited law school and 15+ years’ experience in litigation in the public or private sector (ideally within a complex, regulated industry). Must have current license to practice law. Prior government agency experience preferred (DOJ, Health and Human Services, US Attorney’s Office, etc.). Broad experience in subject matters such as civil fraud, public corruption, white collar crime, and healthcare. Experience interacting/interfacing across a broad array of stakeholders in a complex organizational structure. Proven ability to identify and mitigate legal and business risks Demonstrated track record of establishing client confidence and personal credibility Excellent verbal and written communication skills and demonstrated ability to influence and negotiate successfully. Demonstrated track record in establishing client confidence and personal credibility. Desire to learn new areas of practice and develop subject matter expertise in areas of law relevant to Cigna's industry. Strong business knowledge and acumen demonstrated via prior roles. Ability to operate with an enthusiasm to learn the business.
