Senior Vice President - General Counsel The candidate will serve as a member of the Executive Team and is the primary legal advisor to senior leadership, the hospital Health Board of Directors and the Boards of Directors of its affiliated entities, management, executives and medical staff. Responsible for Legal, Claims and Litigation, Workers’ Compensation and the organization’s self-insured liability insurance program. Provide oversight and accepts accountability for the Legal Services Department, including a matrix relationship to Risk Management for Claims and Litigation and to the Vice President and General Counsel, Health Plan Solutions. A Juris Doctor Degree as well as current license to practice law in the State required. 10+ years of demonstrated progressively more responsible experience in health law, insurance and professional liability law, risk management, hospital administration and contracting, and/or public health administration is required. Demonstrated experience serving as an effective leader within a legal department and as an advisor to the CEO of a large healthcare system required. Strong teamwork, interpersonal relations, communication, negotiation and analytical skills and collaborative leader with an ability to incorporate creativity into the problem solving process required. Experience: effectively developing and implementing strategy, in partnership with outside counsel; with compliance-related issues and demonstrated ability to effectively communicate required. Ability to communicate and interact effectively at all levels of the organization; requires gravitas, judgment and self-confidence but also respect for others, regardless of position required. Experience with development and control of an operating budget for Legal Services Department required.
