Associate Attorney Responsibilities: Provides legal advice to staff as appropriate on a variety of regulatory and compliance issues. Serves as main point of contact regarding information technology/systems contracts, construction contracts, and real estate transactions. Assist in the representation of in administrative hearings and civil litigation proceedings. Participates and acts as legal advisor in interdepartmental meetings to draft policies and procedures, rules and regulations. Drafts, reviews and negotiates general contracts, agreements, memorandum of understanding, leases and other legally binding documents. Conducts legal research on issues such as, but not limited to, municipal, environmental, employment, and utility related topics and drafts legal memoranda and briefs to management applying said law to operations. Attends Board and Board Committee meetings and other meetings as needed and in absence of Manager of Legal Services. Attends meetings of other municipality, county, or state bodies and agencies and other community organizations as needed in back-up capacity to Manager of Legal Services. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualification and Experience

Qualifications: Requires a JD Degree or equivalent from an accredited law school, along with admission and continued good standing in the Kansas Bar. Prefer 1-5 years of significant experience and knowledge information technology/systems contracting, real estate law, contract law, employment law, municipal law or corporate law. An equivalent combination of education and work experience may be considered. Must have ability to handle diversified workload. Must have ability to compose legal briefs, memos, letters, testimony, and other materials. Maintain highest ethical standards and represent WaterOne in an appropriate manner. Must be able to maintain confidentiality. Must maintain good working relationship with all levels of WaterOne personnel. Must be well organized and capable of prioritizing work to meet multiple deadlines. Must communicate well orally and in writing. Must be detail oriented and maintain a high level of accuracy. Must exercise professionalism, good judgment, accountability and display leadership skills. Must have strong computer skills, including experience with the Microsoft Office suite of applications, particularly Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint. Must have experience with online legal research tool.
