Government Relations Specialist The candidate will have several major job responsibilities, including working with tribes and state and federal government agencies, preparing written reports and legal analysis, reviewing legislation related to disaster relief and response, land use planning and hazard mitigation. Demonstrated commitment to environmental and social justice is critical to this position. Work with staff on public policy and advocacy issues important to the Research and Policy Institute. Collaborate with the team to develop and implement strategies to promote the agency’s Research and Policy climate justice priorities related to population displacement. Monitor, analyze, and recommend appropriate responses to legislative and regulatory developments that have implications for agency’s Research and Policy Institute priorities and the people they serve. Work with the agency team to draft legislative analysis, position statements, white papers, reports, articles, fact sheets, issue briefs, and other resources. Collaborate in planning and implementing agency Research and Policy Institute events and meetings with government and non-profit agencies. J.D., B.A. or B.S. degree in public policy and prior government relations experience preferred. Previous work experience with Alaska Native communities required. Demonstrated commitment to social and environmental issues required. 2+ years of public policy or legal work experience required. Computer keyboarding and office skills required. Knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel required.
