VP/Director of Government Affairs & Privacy, Europe The candidate will represent the Company before government entities, related organizations and in industry advocacy and coalition efforts. Develop and execute, government outreach programs that advance the best interests of the Company and its business units. Implement, manage and update Company’s European privacy practices to ensure ongoing compliance with privacy and data protection laws. Respond to regulatory investigations, security incidents, or inquiries regarding privacy or security. Develop and manage procedures for vetting and auditing clients and vendors for compliance with Nielsen’s privacy and data security policies and applicable legal requirements. Review client and vendor contracts to ensure compliance with applicable data protection laws and policies. Maintain and update as needed country-level privacy registrations with data protection authorities in Member States. Track and monitor legislative and regulatory developments, e.g., relevant bills, committee hearings and agency events and rulemaking; advise Company of developments that would impact. Establish communication channels to inform government stakeholders about positions of importance to Company, including publications, briefings, online resources, events and other tools. Provide information and counsel to legislative and regulatory members and staff on policy issues. Gather information about compliance with privacy requirements in individual countries and provide periodic reports. Drive Company privacy education and awareness training in Europe. Support global platform and product teams by carefully reviewing new products and innovations to evaluate compliance with European data protection laws and following a “privacy by design” approach. Assist in the Company’s compliance with the EU-US and Swiss-US Safe Harbor programs and help to address data transfers from the EU to other non-EU countries.

Qualification and Experience

Qualifications: Experience in privacy and government affairs in a global organization. A deep knowledge of European privacy and data protection laws and demonstrated experience managing complex cross-border data transfer projects and initiatives; qualified lawyer referred. Established working relationships with policymakers and Data Protection Authorities. Demonstrated knowledge of Internet technologies and experience accrued in Internet/tech company preferred. Excellent communication, presentation and facilitation skills. Fluent in English; fluency in at least one additional European language is preferred. Strong project management and change management skills. Experience in leading project teams. Ability to develop policies and training materials from complex regulatory and legal information. Preference for the position to be based in Brussels, but will also consider candidates based in the UK, or Paris.
