Assistant Professor, Political Science Duties: Teach courses in American politics at the undergraduate and graduate levels, which may include: Introduction to American Government; How Democratic is the U.S.; Constitutional Law; Law and Social Change; Jurisprudence; Senior Seminar in Law, Politics, and Policy; Scope and Methods of Political Science; and Graduate Seminar in Public Law. Engage in research leading to conference participation and publication. Advise students, serve as a member of Master’s thesis and comprehensive exam committees. Participate in service to the department, college, university and community.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: Ph.D. in Political Science or in appropriate related discipline. Degree at time of application, or official notification of completion of the doctoral degree by August 1, 2017. Specialization in Public Law, Judicial Politics, Constitutional Law & Theory, or Law & Society. Teaching experience or evidence of strong potential for effective teaching. Demonstrated potential for successful research and publication. desired: Specialization in one or more of the following: American law and courts, legal mobilization, rights advocacy and discourse, judicial process, or judicial behavior. JD Degree degrees in addition to the Ph.D. are encouraged to apply. Able to connect their specific areas of interest with broader questions within political science, such as the impact of economic, racial, ethnic, and gender inequality on democratic governance; the capacity of the American political system to deal effectively with economic and environmental challenges; or the relationship between American civil liberties and philosophies of social justice.
