Staff Attorney Duties: Litigate a case from beginning to end. Develop significant new cases in a strategic fashion. Work closely with the Managing Attorney. Oversee the work of Associate and Senior Associate Attorneys. Collaborate in team problem solving, litigation strategy, litigation management and trial work. Lead and perform all aspects of the litigation process, including factual and legal investigation, working with clients, and drafting and editing briefs and other legal documents. Work with experts and other witnesses, conducting discovery and depositions, delivering oral arguments and examining witnesses in court, and negotiating with opposing counsel. A commitment to public interest work and a passion for mission. Communicate and work effectively with external audiences such as the news media, government officials, and coalition partners, and must be able to function as an effective spokesperson for clients, including in public presentations. Work effectively with other departments (Communications, Development, and Policy and Legislation), and with the leadership of the Litigation department. Share the responsibility for supervising and developing Associate and Senior Associate Attorneys, and must be able to work closely and effectively with them.

Qualification and Experience

Requirements: Law school graduate who is admitted or willing to apply for admission to the Florida Bar. 8+ years of litigation experience. Substantial experience in complex litigation in Florida preferred. Features of such litigation include 1) a single issue litigated in multiple forums, 2) substantial numbers of different issues, and/or 3) large numbers of different parties. Supervision of staff or litigation teams preferred. Proven research, analysis, writing, and oral advocacy skills. Initiative, good judgment, and a strong work ethic. Experience working with diverse staff and client groups. Ability to work both independently and in collaboration with others. Willingness to work long hours and weekends as demanded by a busy docket and trial schedule.
