Senior Attorney - Environmental The candidate will provide counsel on various regulatory matters (domestic and international) pertaining to environmental, health and safety, including analyzing and overall mitigating corporate exposure; identifying areas of legal risk and taking steps to ensure processes are in place to mitigate that risk; counseling facility managers and senior management and support functions in legal matters; providing legal training; supporting acquisitions and divestitures; assisting in litigation matters; representing firm’s business in enforcement or regulatory matters before governmental agencies; and exercising professional judgment to protect the interests of the business both internally and externally, as well as to further the EHS strategic initiatives of the Company. Will provide legal and strategic counsel to firm’s EHS personnel (at the plant, group, regional and corporate levels), and to other business leaders in order to ensure compliance with applicable EHS law and regulation, maximize benefits and reduce risk. This includes traditional, facility-based EHS compliance and product-based compliance (such as compliance with various emerging “product stewardship†regulations similar to the EU’s REACH, RoHS and WEEE regulations). Ensure the practices, policies and activities of firm’s businesses meet EHS legal and management requirements. Proactively identify potential problems and devise creative solutions that strike an effective balance between cost and return, including both short term and long term business and legal considerations. Provide legal advice on EHS matters in the context of acquisitions and divestitures, including due diligence and contract negotiation. In addition, support of real estate transactions, for both EHS and standard real estate legal considerations, is considered a plus. Participate in and manage negotiations with government agencies and others on EHS matters (including enforcement) in order to properly communicate firm’s position, maximize benefits and reduce risk. Manage legal aspects of environmental remediation projects, and effectively and accurately evaluate the financial impact of those remediations; develop and deliver effective EHS training to personnel throughout the Company. Demonstrate legal knowledge, the ability to support executives, clients and other attorneys, raise the performance bar, personally drive for results to meet or exceed expectations while understanding that how accomplishments are achieved is equally important and actively use the firm Business System. See the big picture and ensure alignment with firm’s overall strategies, recognize patterns to help establish strategies, demonstrate sound strategic thinking, make good decisions based on analysis, experience and expertise, and actively contribute to and participate collaboratively in worldwide EHS strategic initiatives. Should have JD degree from an accredited law school and be a licensed attorney. Experience in engineering is needed. Experience in real estate is advantageous. Must have 3+ years of experience at a major law firm or in public or private company setting. Must be authorized to work in the US on a continuous basis without company sponsorship.
