ProfileCounsel, Legal Affairs The candidate will draft and negotiate television entertainment agreements and be responsible for handling production-related legal issues for television programming for company, which includes our studios, Universal Television and Universal Television Alternative Studios, and our broadcast network, NBC, with an emphasis on unscripted programming. Representative types of agreements include development and rights agreements, on-camera talent agreements, producer and director agreements, overall and first look agreements, license and co-production agreements, digital rights agreements, production services agreements, commercial production agreements and similar documents. Will also advise clients on intellectual property, defamation, privacy, contract, clearance, rights-related and regulatory issues, as well as other issues arising out of programming. Responsibilities: Draft, review, negotiate and interpret contracts and other documentation. Provide timely and thoughtful legal advice on potential risks and issues, and propose practical, responsive solutions. Vet content, scripts, activity outlines, and series/challenge rules. Partner with NBCUniversal business executives, as well as colleagues in the Law Department, to discuss and implement best practices and formulate new processes in connection with business needs. Create and update forms. Work with the Legal Affairs team and colleagues in the Law Department on major projects with long-term business implications. Other matters at the direction of the SVPs and/or VPs, Legal Affairs.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have strong track record of successful project execution. Outstanding analytic and organizational skills, including excellent drafting and negotiation skills. Sound, practical business judgment; adaptability to manage multiple wide-ranging matters and priorities, conflicting deadlines, and new areas of expertise as business needs change. Excellent oral and written communication skills; experience communicating with various audiences and levels of management. Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point and other related tools.
